Good Afternoon,
We upgraded from 1.4 to 1.6 and then to 1.8. I know that MyDMS is no longer supported, hence File Manager. How do I move the folders/content of MyDMS to File Manager? Is there a link that will guide me specifically?
Thanks in advance for your time and consideration!
No, unfortunately I haven’t found a solution. It puzzles my mind why the developers did not think that EGroupWare users would have a need to migrate from MyDMS to FileManager.
If anybody has any suggestions, please share it with the rest of us. I’m sure there are many that would like to find a solution.
Because they want us all to buy there commercial version or pay them for custom migration

MyDMS was deprecated in 1.6 for various reasons (please look them up in my older posts about that topic).
After deprecating an application it get’s removed in the next release, in that case 1.8.
Filemanager is our replacement for MyDMS, thought the both are not identical:
filemanager is fully integrated into EGroupware
uses plugins/backends mounted into the vfs tree
attachements are stored there and accessible via it
fmail can store mail-attachments there or attache files from it
offers webdav access
MyDMS could just store and retrieve files, but had no integration into EGroupware
there is now a filemanager backend in our EPL version that supports versioning
Because they want us all to buy there commercial version or pay them for custom migration
I was asking for migration from MyDMS to Filemanager, too and got an
answer that they can make a script for cca 500-1000 EUR. If there is
enough interest, the cost can be split among all …
In our case, we downloaded files manually from MyDMS to local folder and
than use webdav to upload files to Filemanager.

500-1000 EUR doesn’t sound too bad.
If I were depending on this for a business, I’d probably budget that in.
Then again, if I were using this for a business, I would be using the
commercial version.

Robert,
Thanks for your reply. Could you please let the rest of us know the steps you took? I think this would be very helpful for us that are not as familiar with the product as you.
On our environment, we have different folders for different groups, and only users within that group can view their folders. When you uploaded the files to FileManager, was this an issue that you encountered? If so, how did you resolve it?
I think if we all share our knowledge, we’ll be able to resolve this particular issue. If I’m successful in doing this, I’ll take clear notes and post it for the others.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Hi
Sure, no problem.
I had 2 egw installations. On the old one I opened “MyDMS -
Administrator tools - Files and folders overview” (please note that I
translated this from Slovenian back to English). This gives you (as an
administrator) overview of all files and folders. From here I
right-click and downloaded all files to local folder.
When you’ve done this, you can rearrange folders …edit whatever you
want before you upload files to new egw installation.
On Windows client you can access WebDAV folders over My Computer - My
network places - Add network place, where you insert
"http://WWW.YOUR-DOMAIN.ORG/egroupware/filemanager/webdav.php/home" into
Network address field. After OK, you’ll be prompted for username and
password, name of new network place and that’s it.
You can google for “webdav client” or something similar, if you want to
map webdav folder as a drive on your computer.
Linux clients support mounting webdav folders, too.

The Filemgr, Webdav and a lot more about EGroupware is described in the
