Migration-upgrade issue with db

Hello,
I’m moving my EGW installation to a new server and taking the
opportunity to upgrade from 1.6002 to 1.8001.
Both old and new servers are running CentOS 5 and using Postgresql
8.1.22 as the db.
I’ve downloaded and installed all apps and EGW core RPMS as directed.
Everything installed fine, apps installed, db and tables all installed
and connecting fine. I’m able to log in, add a user and the user can log
in, see email, all good.
However, I’m having problems moving the data from the 1.6 installation
to 1.8. I’ve tried copying over a EGW db backup from 1.6 to the 1.8
backup folder and doing a db restore in 1.8. The restore appears to run
for a minute or so, says its’ done, but there is no data added to the db.
I’ve also tried a “pgdump” and import using psql. It appears to run OK,
but I do see some error statements flying by on the screen. When done, I
can see data has been added to the tables, using pgPHPadmin 4.2, except
for the “egw_accounts” table. It shows only 6 entries where the old 1.6
installation had 40+ accounts.
I’m thinking of dumping the “egw_accounts” table from 1.6, emptying the
"egw_accounts" table in 1.8 then restoring the data from 1.6. Is this a
good way to proceed? I’m afraid of all users loosing access to their
data in 1.8!
Any recommendations here appreciated!
Thanks.

Update

It appears the DB structure for the table “egw_accounts” in 1.6 is not the same in 1.8. Specifically the table in 1.6 has 2 more fields than in 1.8: “account_challenge” and “account_response”.

When I dumped “egw_accounts” from 1.6 it showed the 2 extra fields always to be “null”. So I deleted the 2 extra fields from all entries in the dump and did an insert to the new 1.8 DB installation. It worked fine! All accounts appear to be in place and various users can log in.

Now I need to verify everyone’s permissions and access rights are the same in 1.8 as in 1.6.

When I did this recently I found the easiest way for me was to upgrade the old install to
1.8 then move it. The upgrade updated the databases so there was no problem moving them.
There was a glitch with updating the databases but it worked itself out.

Thanks for the input. Sorry for the lag responding. I did end up upgrading EGW in place.
Everything seemed to work well except for Tracker. I kept getting errors in the “setup/Manage
applications” for tracker with the suggestion to remove and re-install. So I did and it blew away the
Tracker DB tables.

I have a backup of the tracker tables but they are in the 1.6 table format. I need to come up
with a method to update the data to the new format. More posts to the forum!

It is interesting to see an architect using egroupware. I’m the IT guy for a 40 person
architectural firm and slowly integrating egw into our workflow. Any input/suggestion would be
appreciated. I’m happy to share our experience.

Best wishes!
