Authentication with an external database

Hi,

is it possible to have a custom authentication which uses an external database?
In my scenario I have an external MySQL database holding usernames and passwords, which I would like to use for the login process, eventually auto-creating eGW user accounts on the fly.
How can I implement this the best way? I am not afraid of doing some own coding.
I have tried to find the right place in the code, but the documentation is not very complete in this point and sometimes outdated and I got a bit lost in all the different files.

Thanks.

Daniel

If you using a current EGroupware (1.8 or EPL 10.1), you can simply copy
phpgwapi/inc/class.auth_sql.inc.php to eg.
phpgwapi/inc/class.auth_something.inc.php and modify it a little. Setup
will show it as auth type “Something”, you select and store it.

Anyway that’s more a question for the devel list.
